In reply to: Parts of my site/blog show up in Spanish, need it to stopThanks tara, I’ll give it a try. I remember installing this plug in years ago that supposedly would give language support, and it did not work well for me and I deactivated it and removed it, but the hooks definitely remained, as my site thought its default was spanish, so I had go in and delete some file with the suffix, I believe was .es so wordpress would then default back to english, that mostly worked, but with any wordpress update, the wordpress asks if I want to install the .es update, so somewhere in there it still thinks its spanish for some reason. but I will still go through the steps you recommend, thanks for the help.

In reply to: Change Admin Languagefound a work around so posted it here
find the content folder that has the languages, one of them, because mine was in spanish was es-es.mo (which I believe stands for ‘es’ spain and then ‘es’ for spanish or the spanish variant rather than mexico, etc. I then changed the name to es-es-old.mo and since I saw that wordpress will default back to English if there is an error, it did what it said and defaults back to english, prolly because it could not find the language file it was looking for. it will probably be on fire later tonight because of my hack job, but so far so good.
Posting this answer because I had the same problem and figured out my work around, and hopefully people will find it through this thread.
I read that if there are any language ‘errors’ that wordpress defaults back to english, my whole admin was in spanish, so I went into the file management section, found the content/language folders (I can’t remember the exact path) and then renamed the foreign language files, one of them ES-es.mo there were two in the language folder, I changed their names to add the word ‘old’ es-es-old.mo just so if I crashed the whole thing I could change their name back to the original name. After I did this I refreshed the admin page, and presto everything back in English. it will probably catch fire because of my hack job but so far so good. Otherwise I got the suggestion multiple times to do a complete reinstall, which I know I would have messed up. good luck – jim
