    ok looks like php fopen is set to on however they say you may be using certain ports with the plugin? I have included hostgators response below:

    Thank you for contacting HostGator. I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been experiencing some RSS issues with your site. I’ve confirmed that both allow_url_fopen and allow_url_include are enabled in the server’s PHP configuration, so those shouldn’t be the cause of the problem. However, if your site is trying to connect outbound on a nonstandard port we will likely need to whitelist it or you’ll receive connection refused errors. Could you provide some additional information on how we may reproduce the problem so we can see what’s going on?

    allow_url_fopen = On
    allow_url_include = On

    Mine is running hostgator and is a business server rather than shared so would expect to have more functionality than a shared but will have a word. Just out of interest did you have to contact hostgator to get yours working first?
