Thank you so much for your suggestions! Good to know that the combination works on your site, then it should be solvable.
I’m sure I was on “Post” (not “Page”), and double checked just now. I have a screen shot of it, but it seems I can’t upload here directly. No matter.
I deactivated all the 9 plugins I had on the site, which worked with featured image before upgrading wordpress and the theme. With all plugins deactivated, the featured image screen options was still not there. That’s when I took the screen shot mentioned above.
However, when I activated them all again, the featured image screen option is back! I’ll make sure to try this nifty little hack next time I have an issue. Thanks for your help!
