I have followed all those links and tried everything, but still cannot figure out how to install Word Press correctly. I keep getting the same errors. I am going to hire a php programmer and see if he can install it for me.

I have my own server (@ev1-server.net) running PHP Version 4.3.10 and MySQL version 4.0.22-standard.

I install scripts and create databases all the time… and usually do not have any problems. This is baffling me 🙁
