  • I missed this thread when I started mine. Sorry.

Anyway I changed my “/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/templates/Thumbnails/default-view.php” line 51 from:-

            $style = 'style="display: none;"';

    to:-

            $style = 'style=display: none;';

But sadly it did not make a jot of difference.

However, enabling the old settings system, going Gallery Settings -> Basic Thumbnails and switching OFF “Add Hidden Images” does seem to resolve the issue. Though I don’t know what that is likely to do to other program features…

I would like that too please. This new version has so many bugs we find it almost unusable now, sadly.

Well it seems to have been fixed, at least in part, in 4.0.4 and its quite quick. However a new problem: if the folder has a large number of files > 40 or so, it starts importing some pictures TWICE! Which means duplicate entries in the database. If one attempts to delete a duplicate entry, it deletes the picture too and then one has non existent pictures in the database. Only way around that is to mark the entire directory as read only, delete the duplicates one-by-one in NextGEN then make the folder writable by the webserver again. But this is one hell of a palaver for something that should be so simple.

Thanks @mceban much appreciated. It seems a somewhat inelegant workaround. But it works and you had it ready-to-go – so top marks for the forethought. And at least it gets us out of trouble while you (hopefully) come up with a rather more elegant solution. πŸ™‚

TBH, It’s only ever been an issue with this plugin, and that is fixed now. Moreover, the “WordPress Address (URL)” and “Site Address (URL)” are both already pointing to https. I just checked.

On my sites, the redirect takes place in apache.conf so that if the user enters an http address it redirects to https. I think this sort of redirect is fairly standard practice nowadays, isn’t it?

Anyway, i’ve been testing the plugin and it seems fine on both sites. πŸ™‚

Now, that’s more like the old NGG Smart Image Search we all know and love. πŸ™‚

It works perfectly now. Please feel free to try it for yourself on my site. It also fixed a similar issue on my other site too. The only redirect on the other site is to go from from http to https – which I’d imagine is a fairly common thing. So I think a lot of users will benefit from this fix.

Anyway, thanks for fixing it, and doing it so quickly. I have marked this as “resolved” πŸ™‚

Thank you. But like I said, my time is limited.

FWIW, I went back to “Really Simple Captcha”, activated Akismet and added its form shortcodes to my “Contact Form 7” forms. This seems to have fixed our spam issue nicely – and it only took a few minutes to implement.

However, out of curiosity, I will try your program again on another site if/when spam becomes an issue there.

Thank you for your response. I have just tried it again, several more times, in fact. The link you give in your program needed to get the key is:
    https://www.google.com/recaptcha/admin/create

    It still returns:-
    “502. That’s an error.
The server encountered a temporary error and could not complete your request.
Please try again in 30 seconds. That’s all we know.”

The thing is, you provide the link that is essential for making your program work. The link doesn’t work, so your program doesn’t work. Perhaps you should try your link yourself and try to get it sorted out, rather than taking this “nothing to do with me” approach?

In any event, I’m sorry but there are lots of other extensions out there and I really cannot afford to waste any more time on this.

    Good luck with it anyway.

Well, if you are kind enough to maintain this software, for free, and fix the bugs, then the least I can do is submit some bug reports to help you perfect the product! πŸ™‚

    First issue submitted already.

Thank you for the info and for the link. FWIW all my sites’ databases are automatically backed up daily with “mysqlbackup” script, run as a cron job. And the entire server is regularly rsynced over SSH to a local server. But thanks for the warning. Better safe than sorry – as the old saying goes. πŸ™‚

I will test my backups and install the latest beta later today or first thing tomorrow, and let you know how it goes.

Yes please I would be delighted to test. I will also submit bug reports If that will help you?

Sadly, at the moment, in order to get everything working as we need, I have had to roll right back to the last “v1.x series” Nextgen, version 1.9.13, After that there were so many regressions (dialogs not appearing correctly, sort order broken, slideshow broken etc.) that we had no choice but to go back to a version where everything worked as expected.

As a matter of interest, were they any known security issues with version 1.9.13?

A month or so has passed and a new version is out. I just installed it but sadly this problem remains. Are we any nearer a fix? Or is there something I can do to my template to make it work?

    Many thanks.

Edit. It has just sprung into life on “twenty fifteen, having refreshed the page several times. Still does not work on older themes such as “twenty ten” though.

    (@mrgoose)

Thanks for your speedy response. Just tried it again, using latest default “Twenty Fifteen” theme. Still does not work, I’m afraid.

    What next?

I don’t think this is related to themes. I should also add that slideshow worked fine in last version (though there were shedloads of other bugs which I was pleased to see fixed with this version).

OK so one replaces the two corrupted files. What’s to stop the attacker (or attack bot) simply modifying them again?

Would it not be a tad premature to ask Google for a review before this is fixed properly?
