It turns out that the issue was due to the WordPress/PHP e-mail function, and was not a result of this plugin. It worked fine sending a notification with a “From” address of one contributor (Gmail), but not the address of another (Yahoo).
The quick workaround was to change this plugin’s settings to always set the “From” address to a specified (known working) address.
