I can report that migrating terms when renaming a taxonomy works for me on branch ‘571-too-early-saving’ – I look forward to the fix shipping, but I can make this work for now.

Yeah, I think it’s not hugely common to go around renaming taxonomies.
Unfortunately for me, this is kind of a blocker on a large build I’m working on.
Any advice on how to safely do this manually while this bug makes its way through the queue?
