We have spent the last two weeks trying to sort out this same problem. We are set the custom_permalink field using the API and it generally seems to work on an individual basis. But when we bulk upload product info JSON, a small percentage of products seem to get their permalink changed to be wrong. And usually it is with a number at the end similar to yours. We have even changed our bulk uploads now so that they do NOT even include the custom_permalink. Still the problem occurs so it seems that custom_permalink is getting corrupted by our product upload feed even though we aren’t actually changing that field at all! Can you offer any further information? Is the problem still occurring for you?

Shameem – thanks for your answer which is the most straightforward and useful of several I received. I will check out the plugins you mention, otherwise we will invest in a custom plugin if required, no problem.

I was not aware of the ‘Custom Fields’ checkbox in the Screen Preferences. This simple change made the field view/editable, thank you.

Next we need to display this on the relevant product page. If I have a field number_of_players, how would we display “Number of players: 3” on the product page? (if this is not the appropriate forum, please let me know which is the best forum to repost in….)
