Hey Brandon,
I wasn’t able to see your CSV, but requested access.
However, I think I was able to fix the author and template import issue. Just pushed up a fix in v.1.0.4
Thanks as always!
Nate
(Going to mark this as resolved, but feel free to comment back!)
Hey Brandon,
Just wanted to follow up to see if you could share the CSV that you were importing.
I currently don’t have the Amazon import fetching images on CSV import, since that could be very spammy/read as an attempt to DDoS a site 😅.
Cheers,
Nate
Hey Brandon,
Thanks for reaching out, I’ll check on these and get back to you.
Are you able to share a link of the CSV you’re working with as a Google sheet or something like that here?
Thanks!
Nate
You got it Brandon! Holler if there’s anything else I can do to help out.
And thank you, this plugin would be buggier if not for your help!
Cheers,
Nate
Hey Brandon, just following up, looks like your library is loading now so I’m going to mark this as resolved.
Keep me posted if you need anything else 🙂.
Cheers,
Nate
Hey again Brandon,
I’ve got a fix in for this with v.1.0.3 of the plugin.
So, I think the issue is that you had a format stored in the database wasn’t one of the accepted formats (might have been the “mispelled” comicbook import you mentioned…).
So, that should get fixed just fine now. If the book, comic, or whatever doesn’t have an accepted format, it’ll say “Other” in the listing you’re trying to use, so look out for that. If you see Other, then you can open that post, change the format in the select menu to something else, save it, and change it back and save it, and then it should have the right format.
Ok, hope that resolves it, keep me posted!
Cheers,
Nate
Hey Brandon,
Go to the MyReads >> Settings page, and check “Yes, automatically regenerate…”, save that:
Also, click the Regenerate JSON button.
If that doesn’t work, can you make sure you’re using the most updated version of WordPress, and if you’re using a caching plugin, make sure you clear the cache.
I’m seeing aTypeError: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'icon')error as well in the JS Console. So I’m checking that out as well. Thanks for the report!
Nate
Hey Brandon,
Solid, glad that’s working. What I think might be happening is that, since the request that fires off to Amazon is basically scraping the page, I’m sure there’s a rate limit to servers doing that. If you’re only doing it once every couple of minutes (i.e., like a regular person), probably not a big deal.
But if you’re lining up posts and rapid-fire requesting images, that might be an issue.
It could also be that, if you’re on shared hosting, other folks from the server are also doing the same kind of pinging or scraping, in which case Amazon (rather AWS) would limit or block your requests from time to time.
Besides that, I’ll get some fixes out to make sure that if folks import the wrong meta, it doesn’t break things… Thanks for that bug, stay tuned!
Cheers,
Nate
Hey Brandon,
Thanks for reaching out about the bugs. That last one you sent, I fixed immediatley, so v.1.0.2 is up. Thank you so much!
For the other two:
- So, to clarify, you did something like “bbook” instead of “book”, right?
- I’ll have to test what might be going on there… does it work for the default pattern that ships with the plugin? Or is that broken too?
Thank you again!
Nate
Hi there Kaiju (is that your name?),
I’ve made the update, you can see the new options in the settings screen now:

Let me know how that works for you.
Cheers,
Nate
Hi, thanks for reaching out!
Great idea, I’ve got that on my roadmap, but I can move that up.
I’m thinking I can make it work so you:
- Create a saved pattern
- Select that pattern in the settings
Would that work?
I’ll get to work on this… maybe give me a few days?
Thanks again for the feedback, I really appreciate it! 🙂
Nate
Hey Dholu,
I’ve got the unrated place holder and support for comments in a new version of the plugin.
You can see it updated here: https://n8finch.com/my-reads/the-art-of-gathering/
Cheers,
Nate
Hey Dholu, no worries…
So, are you referring to comments as in WordPress native comments? If so, it’s because I currently don’t have this support comments, but I can add that easily in the next release.
Still working on that though. 😁
I’ll let you know when that’s added.
Cheers,
Nate
Hey Dholu, thanks for the feedback and the images.
- I’m not planning on doing this, because the “Grab a copy” is just a Button block, and it could link anywhere (B&N, Goodreads, etc.), or it could be removed. Even on my own website, I’m copy/pasting twice. 😅
- I’m not sure what you mean by “comment bot”, can you be more specific?
Thanks!
Yes, you can also add whatever blocks you have available under the default content.
For example, I write notes underneath the default group: https://n8finch.com/my-reads/meditations-for-mortals/
Also, correct! The post can be opened by turning off the “Use Amazon link” toggle in the My Reads Listing Block.
Hope that helps!
