I updated it to version 5.4. I also got the same error message with php 5.5.

Here is the error message.

As I wrote in a previous email it works fine in php 5.2. Could it be something else? When I talked to 1and1.com which is my hosting company, they said the site had not been hacked.

I am not sure because I cannot get into the dashboard. I was trying to get into my dashboard to update wordpress and the theme.

I was getting the error message when I tried to get into http://markwgeiger.com/wp-admin/. This is the error message – Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_is_mobile() in /homepages/23/d201802654/htdocs/markGeiger/wp-admin/includes/misc.php on line 557.

At this point, I could still see the site. So I exported a copy of my database file for backup. Then I could no longer see the site. So I deleted the widescreen theme and uploaded a fresh copy. I still could not see the site. Now I get the error message – Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_VARIABLE in /homepages/23/d201802654/htdocs/markGeiger/wp-includes/functions.php on line 192.

I called my hosting company and they saw an error in the database probably due to my trying to backup my database. So they said it would take 24 to 48 hours to restore the old database.
