Im Using the Avada theme
the thumbnails are actually larger than original upload,
i tried running image optimizng plugins but they all require exec()
which i have been told is not recomended and also my hosting service wont allow.
if i download all the thumbnails and run some bulk file resizing such as ifranview and then upload them back to upload folders on server would it work?, i just tried it with 1 image and it seems to work only a friend told me something about the possibility of the wordpress resizing them again when the wordpress cache refreshes (or something like that) in which case it wont help downloading resizing and uploading back.
any ideas?

when uploading the images, all were saved optimized between 20-40 k and they also exist in that size in the media library. the thumbnails files are larger size even though they are smaller in pixel size.
