In reply to: Mapped domain, but not "sticky" in browserSolved the problem.
I had elected to not have the “user domain mapping page” option selected. Thus, when following Otto’s tutorial, I was skipping his step which involved using the user domain mapping page to set the primary domain. So my problem was that example.com/subdirectory was still the primary domain.
I returned subdirectory.com back to a parked domain in Cpanel. Then I checked off the option for user domain mapping page and immediately saw the problem of example.com/subdirectory set as the primary. Switched this to subdirectory.com and all is now well.
I realize now that this is possible without the user domain mapping page also. I had inadvertently missed the checkbox for ‘primary’ when using the Network Admin -> domains screen.

In reply to: Mapped domain, but not "sticky" in browserSwitched subdirectory.com to an Addon domain. Same behavior (enter subdirectory.com in browser, wind up at example.com/subdirectory).

In reply to: Mapped domain, but not "sticky" in browserexample.com is my main Cpanel domain. In Cpanel I then went into Parked Domains, and parked subdirectory.com.
Should this be an add-on domain? I guess I could try that, but thought it was supposed to be parked.

In reply to: Mapped domain, but not "sticky" in browserI’ve got the domain mapping plugin installed & network activated. I’ve configured the domain mapping & followed Otto’s tutorial http://ottopress.com/2010/wordpress-3-0-multisite-domain-mapping-tutorial/ … done the works.
Wondering if I might have a .htaccess problem?

In reply to: 2nd localhost wp install db connection problemResolved by deleting wp-config.php, re-creating a new one from the sample wp-config-sample.php, and re-editing DB_NAME, DB_USER, and DB_PASSWORD. Evidently, the code in the bottom of the wp-config.php file which I had used from my other WordPress install had auto-generated code from setting up multi-site settings. Best this not be in the initial wp-config.php file.
