I did what you suggest, changed some text and the update went through. But no change on the issue at hand. I still can see all followers (on that instance) on Mastodon.
So I believe the reasonable thing now would be raising an issue for Mastodon-Support/Development.

I double-checked the author’s profile and the deactivation is set.
You can check by searching for “mediathekperlen” on mastodon.social – where you see the whole list appearing under “Follower”.
API caching is something I am not aware of. I don’t have any cache-plugins activated other than “Surge” – and that’s probably not what you have in mind.

In the meanwhile, I have tested this on two Mastodon instances, but as well on Hubzilla and Misskey. It seems the problem throwing this error seems indeed only to exist on Mastodon, so probably I should better ask their devs to have a look?

In reply to: [ActivityPub] WordPress / Mastodon “Display Name not valid”Thanks for looking into this, @pfefferle. That has been a reasonable advice. To my regret, it doesn’t make a difference. All my posts do have a numeric tag (year), some work and resolve in the search, some don’t. I also had sanitization in mind, like accents, apostrophes, umlauts etc… but that doesn’t seem to have any impact either.
