That’s a very common problem. The tabs are photos, that’s the reason that you cannot change their colour. Use an ftp and change the mantra.png etc pictures (placed on the folder image/ on your theme) with photoshop and then upload them without changing anything on the coding.
Putting a slideshow plugin code on the header.php is the only way I know.
