  • Thanks for everyone’s help. I subsequently spent some time conversing with 123reg and they are satisfied that everything is set up correctly and they can see the uploaded files on the ftp site.

I have waited the 48 hours that 123 suggest is necessary for everything to fall into place. I therefore looked for my website today (on a different computer to that which I am using here and on which I have been designing the site). I found that I reached a wordpress page which invites me to set up a new site. I ignored this initially but out of curiosity entered my site name and log in. I was surprised to find that this set up another site but, alarmingly, in the same name as the one which already exists.

I am therefore unsure that the downloaded WP file which now sits on the ftp site correclty identifies my site.

How can I check this please?

    Thanks esmi.

Is this a name which I create or is it a specific name of the WP site which I have created?

If WP can create it do I forget the renaming the wp-config file and simply upload the files. How will this identify the WP site which I have created?

    Hi Nathzo

Thanks for your help. I am on a steep learning curve here!

I think I have this right now (although web site still not actually appearing via my host which I will also checkout with them).

I have downloaded WP, unzipped, opened the sample file and saved as wp-config.php. I have opening this in notepad and made the changes. Key information re ftp from my host entered. Authentication Unique keys entered as generated by WP link.

A couple of questions. In what format is the name of the database for WP entered? e.g.http://thenvirohaus.wordpress.com? Or something else?
Do I need to enter anything for the datbase ‘charset’?

    Thanks nathzo.

Sounds straightforward but where do I go to find and download my WP file?

    Cheers

I too am having problems uploading through an FTP site using Filezilla so this forum is timely.
However, I am no techie so need a dummies guide to how to do this. Catacaustic says –
You just need to upload the files in the WP installation ZIP file.
    What is – wp-config.php file

How do I do this? All I can see is an export via an xml file. ‘Just’ makes it all sound very simple!

    Thanks for any help.
