In reply to: Install WMPU on in Root but not use for Main SiteIpstenu,
Really the easiest way to set it up is to just use the same installation for our main site and the WPMU. This will also be the easiest way to manage it as well. Thank you very much for the help and I’m sure we will become regulars around the support forum so look forward to seeing you on the board!Forum: Networking WordPress
In reply to: Install WMPU on in Root but not use for Main SiteAnother question is can we just rewrite the URLs in the .htaccess file? e.g. user.blogs.site.com redirects to user.site.com

In reply to: Install WMPU on in Root but not use for Main SiteIpstenu, you said, “It won’t work easily” We are willing to do the extra work so how can we do it? Easy or difficult, it looks like our best option.

In reply to: Install WMPU on in Root but not use for Main SiteWe can’t use WP for our main install at least not at this point because we would have to migrate tens of thousands of pages to switch to WP… Even then we don’t want the same WP installation to also be connected with our WPMU because of security reasons. If our WPMU gets hacked or something breaks it can go down but if our main site goes down, we loose lots of money and someone gets fired.
The placeholder static front page sounds like a better alternative but also risky because our WPMU will have thousands of users and sites and again, will be vulnerable to attack. If the network breaks will the static front page go down too?
