Is this still occurring? Does it happen with many different sites or is there one in particular that seems to do this? PF should only ever bring the entire piece, but sometimes a site’s formatting can throw it off.

There is actually two ways to do this, both by individual post and as a rule for all posts (unless you override at the individual post).
When you are editing a post, there is a selection at the bottom of the “Publish” box called “Don’t forward” or “forward” to original item URL. If you select “forward”, then the link from the homepage will direct to the original.
To have this on by default, go into the pressforward preferences. Under site options, the first option is “seconds to direct to original source”. At zero, there is no redirect and the user will stay on your site when the link is clicked. If you indicate 1 second or more, the link will redirect to the original.
