I don’t think I used WP Bakery for those pages, just the normal WP portfolio editor page, with the additional options the theme offers.

If the re-use can be accomplished it would also work the other way around. Meaning that new images that I add to the category pages, I can also include in the sample gallery in the home page.
Thing is, I’m running the Justified Image Grid plugin to display the images, not direct links.
I want to make specific category pages, and as you can see this initial gallery has a mix of different families and species. And the Justified Image Grid brings the gallery display to a new level 🙂
But I want to re-use those images in the specific category galleries (flies, beetles, dragonflies, etc).
