I think, this is not possible for categories, but i can be wrong. GD star rating work only on post or pages ?
Go to GD Star Rating/Settings/Special and check: Snippet will be renedered hidden on the page (style display set to none).
But if you do this, ur ratings will disappear frorm SERPS on Google.
Google doesn’t like hiding text. I had tested it on my own web site.

It’s possible, but ur main page should be custom page, not blog. See Setting/Reading/Main page displays/Static page
