I also rely on this plugin and would love to see it updated. I saw that in their major announcement yesterday (11th May) about full site editing for themes, Studio Press said that Author Pro theme will be archived, however, they will continue to push security updates if necessary. I don’t mind about the theme not being updated, but this plugin is very useful and I would hate to see it being retired.

I have solved the second more minor issue. I selected a ‘sort by’ option in the settings for the Object Image Grid plugin and then the page populated with images. It might be a good idea for you to delete the blank line in the drop-down box to force people to choose an option.
The first problem re the critical error caused by this plugin when using Gutenberg still stands.
