My original intention was to have a “Buy” button that leads directly to the user’s cart with the item so they can go straight from my page to purchasing the item. Would this “callback function” or custom JavaScript be able to get the item ID? Or is that fully off the table?.

Although i appreciate that you have resolved my problem
I feel that your comment “Would have appreciated if you would have told us that probably you are using Yoast SEO also which plays a part in the problem that you have highlighted. Assuming that, it takes time to research for us.” is a little bit twisted.
Of course, if you had asked me for a list of my plugins, I would have given them but for me to suggest that Yoast might cause the problem implies that I already know what was causing the issue and makes my question nonsensical.
Thank you for resolving this issue, I am sure that if anyone else has the same problem in the future, you can now jump to their rescue without the need to research it again. 🙂
