No worries. Is good to have everything enabled again so I can have it render the math images.

    Testing done:

    • Condition: all plugins activated including wpmathpub: No errors flagged due to null string issue
    • Condition: all plugins activated and toggling state of wpmathpub: No errors flagged when enabling / disabling wpmathpub plugin.

I asked about your tool set because years ago I wrote a classified ad website in PERL from near scratch. I used a text editor with FileZilla to upload every time I need to run the code to my dreamhost account. It was on a Windows box. Switched out of Windows 2 year ago because of all the odd stuff MS is getting up to w/ Windows 11. Things are so much more natural on Linux for this kind of stuff.

Am thinking to set up on a box with host file set to refer to local computer so I do not have to cycle through uploading. That got pretty maddening. Not as in angry mad. As in crazy loony bin mad.

I will let you know if I find anything else with usage. Keep my contact info. If you have anything you need help testing I am up for it.

Curious what sort of tools you use to do this work?

I did notice one thing. When I activate wpmathpub I get the following error message:

Deprecated: Function has_cap was called with an argument that is deprecated since version 2.0.0! Usage of user levels is deprecated. Use capabilities instead. in /home/politico/amarketplaceofideas.com/wp-includes/functions.php on line 6131

Next I disabled all plugins. Then enabled ONLY wpmathpub. Still came back with a double flagging of the following error

Deprecated: Function has_cap was called with an argument that is deprecated since version 2.0.0! Usage of user levels is deprecated. Use capabilities instead. in /home/politico/amarketplaceofideas.com/wp-includes/functions.php on line 6131

Still using a different theme than you. Is that the only thing that could be different between my setup and yours if I disable all other plugins?

I will give it a whirl as soon after it shows up.

Note: when i was yammering about $ symbol being used in a WP post I was talking about the unrelated problem of the following:

    Random jibber jabber for $5

If I put that phrase in bold above in a WP entry then save it off and take a look the entry – it will be all discombobulated. This always happens. It’s not part time. It is full time.

I did not mean to distract with that. It was mentioned in context of wpmathpub only in the sense that for a little bit I thought maybe I had a strange combination of characters that was breaking wpmathpub. I suppose maybe that is the case but only in the sense that it’s feeding a null string to something important in wpmathpub in fairly rare instances.

I will admit I am in suspense as to if this resolves the issue.

“Personal Discovery Process” LOLOLOL I have had more than my fair share of those!

Oh naughty naughty this editor encourages hotlinking images. Luckily I have an ongoing hotlinking schtick with the deuce of clubs phone booth website. But only with the mailguy graphic.

RE: Either way, I clearly need to add some code before line 1055, and thank you for sharing this issue (a few times, so I could get through my own discovery process).

No worries there. One of the goals on my list is to be able to write a WP plugin. I appreciate the opportunity to work with you. In a previous life I was an RF / Microwave guy. In that sort of job you learn how to nail down the software guys. I enjoy it. I can tell you are a good person to work with and it is much appreciated. It is more challenging over the net than in person though I will say that.

Regarding php version the furthest it appears I can revert on DreamHost is to 8.1 which is what I was using until I switched to 8.3 today thinking maybe I might get a clue doing that. No luck there.

I would still like to mimic your blog and try the theme you are using. As you said CKeditor has not gotten much love for a very very long time. Are you using 2020 ?

BTW: The guy who wrote it was Brazilian and it used to be called FCKeditor which of course got called YOU KNOW WHAT!! So he shortened it to CKeditor.

What theme are you using? I will try and see. If I am running setup that is same as yours debug will go better. Also probably should give me a list of your plugins.

WordPress apparently delayed one or more of your entries. The one with all the links as you said. I felt like I had looked and seen nothing previously then suddenly an 8 hour old entry showed up. Going to cover what I see above. If I leave anything out hit me again so I can address. Your topic is the numbered statement. My response is the phrase(s) in the block below numbered item

-1- CKEdit does not work for me. I only get a subset of Classic Editor features. Using image below – do you see any menu I am missing?

I do not see anything you are missing. I don’t think there was anything special in the setup if I remember correctly.

-2- CKEditor is old ( LOL yes it is )

We can eliminate it for testing purposes. Last 2 steps I shut down ALL plugins except wpmathpub. Still had same issue.

    -3- WP Plugin Check

    definitely going to try it.

    -4- Fair test case

Addressed in email reply but will include here also in the interest of keeping things manageable. I also can render a single entry with no problems. So maybe not “fair”. It’s when looking at pages of pages when I see this error. To wit:

https://www.amarketplaceofideas.com/page/275 this is with me logged in. Not logged in means different index but same result. Looks like I covered above with complete error message.

QUESTION: Wondering if maybe I should use the same WP theme as you to reduce variables? As I said I shut down all plugins except wpmathpub for last few rounds of testing.

Can you test the page you created by listing it as follows and see if it errors out?

base URL/page/xxx where xxx is the correct index to list the 10 entries that include the created page?

    Pasting my email response here.

I think you are understanding the part about my concern that there may be a strange string of characters.  Mainly because I’ve learned not to include $ signs in WordPress entries.  Wafting my hand thru the air w/ that one. 🙂

Changed my mind on this because $ causes just garble.  In this case we are currently working on it is not garble.  it is error text.

The part that I think you may have overlooked is that the issue only shows up when I look at the following URL:   https://www.amarketplaceofideas.com/page/275

This is with me logged in so all the private pages count towards making up all the lower indexes.    You will not see list entry pages index go that high if you were to look because you won’t be logged in.

I just disabled all my plugins except wpmathpub and got the same issue:  copy / pasted below. This shows up below the offending entry: https://www.amarketplaceofideas.com/mosfet-body-effect-factor-substrate-bias-effects.htm    when it is listed on the page of 10 entries:   https://www.amarketplaceofideas.com/page/275

Note: In order to use CKeditor plugin work I have to have the Classic Editor plugin installed / enabled.

New symptom ( or old one I forgot about?) – if wpmathpub is enabled when I click publish it comes back with a totally blank page with the following error message ( remember I have debug messages enabled ).

Deprecated: Function has_cap was called with an argument that is deprecated since version 2.0.0! Usage of user levels is deprecated. Use capabilities instead. in /home/politico/amarketplaceofideas.com/wp-includes/functions.php on line 6121

This same message comes up when I enable or disable wpmathpub plugin.

Not sure what if anything is altered by the html handling here. If need be I can paste html source into plain text editor and save off and email to you.
