I’m having the same issues. I’ve tried version 4.2.6 but the problem remains.
It works fine in the shipping information though – post code is noted as required.

Thank you for your answer.
I’m using Manual Related Posts plugin to show related posts at the end of each post and I need featured images to show there.
Anyway, I think I solved the issue. I added:
{ display: none !important; }
to CSS.
