    Davethepak,

It’s not general slowness that’s the issue, it’s the fact that the culprit always seems to be gg.google.com. Whether the page mostly loads and is usable or just stays blank, gg.google.com is almost always at the heart of the problem. I have no idea why or even what that site does.

    iridiax,

Thank-you very much, that solved my problem.

I am curious as to how this “bug” has gone undiscovered for such a long time, and how the publishing of a new post could have brought it to life, not only on that new post, but for all previous posts.

    More Info, Problem Solved.

I have a friend who is a network engineer, who also has FIOS at home. He replicated the problem, using IE7 on FIOS he could not get in. He looked at the traffic to and from the site using some of his tools and discovered what is apparently a conflict with FIOS and WP-Super-Cache.

I turned off WP-Super-Cache and it worked for both users who had a problem,

    Additional information:

The FIOS user who can’t get in contacted Verizon Tech Support. They ran a ping to my site, it went through OK, so they told him it wasn’t their problem. I had him do a tracert and it too was successfully completed, but he still can’t get to my site. I had him add my site to the list of trusted sites in the security section of his browser but it made no difference.

I directed him to a proxy and through that he can use my site, though clearly this is unacceptable.

I have another friend who is also on FIOS, so I asked him to check (he has previously been on my site multiple times with FIOS w/o incident. He couldn’t get in either, same error message. He tried with Firefox and was able to get to the site just fine.

I understand that since I’m on a shared host it could be some sort of filtering going on, but then why would FF work?

I figured it out. I had to make a change in cPanel on my host to make the php.ini file in public_html be applied to all directories below it. I could had different php.inis by putting them where I want, but in my case, one is good enough.

    MichaelH,

These instructions are how to move your existing blog to a subdirectory. That’s not what I want to do. I already have a working blog with files in a subdirectory.

I want to create a new, additional blog in a new domain which is in another subdirectory of the same hosting account. I am concerned (probably needlessly) that the install of WP copy #2 will somehow mess up my database for copy #1.

I’m looking for instructions on how to avoid that. Maybe there isn’t anything to watch out for, but I am being ultra cautious in not wanting to do any damage to the existing WP blog.

    Thanks

Sorry, I didn’t notice that my indenting disappeared when I pasted the message.

All three directories above are directly under the public_html.

I seem to have temporarily fixed the problem. I deactivated 10 plugins and the problem went away. I reactivated them 1 at a time and nothing broke.

If the problem recurs I’ll deactivate one at a time to figure out which it is. I guess I should also reconsider having so many (16).

sebramsland, I get a similar message when I look at your site, “Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site xxxxx operation aborted.” but that’s not exactly the same as what I get. Also, on your site I get the background image and then it craps out. On mine I get absolutely noting of my site, just the MS error.

For debugging so far I have tried a few things:

I loaded every post I have (only 12) and noted which loaded/which did not.

I unpublished every post that was having the problem (5).

    I still get the problem.

I deactivated the plugin “All in one SEO Pack” because I fould a message from someone who said it had caused his problem. It didn’t help, so I reactivated it.
