One additional question… When I network activate a plugin, it doesn’t appear in each site plugin directory. Nor is there an option to add new plugins for the individual sites. Am I missing something here?

Whoa! It’s been a long hard road, but I think I’m there. The only downfall was that none of my images were able to be imported into the new site for some reason. I did an export of my old wp sites before the revamp, hoping for a quick-turn when things revived themselves.

Any suggestions on the import front as to why they didn’t make it or if it’s possible to somehow retrieve them?

Otherwise, I am seriously grateful for your help and relieved to have everything up – even if pics have to be re-loaded and re-distributed around the three sites, the foundation is set for ease in the future. THANK YOU!

Whoop, whoop! I think I’m there. Seriously can’t thank you enough for your direction and help.

In the numerous sets of directions I looked at, no one stressed setting up this path

    /public_html

(or lack thereof) when setting up subdomains.

My only issue now is that I’d like mountainmontage.clairevitucci.com to got to the domain mountainmontage.com. Is this best done through domain mapping or through my host by assigning the domain to the subdomain?

    Again – THANK YOU!!!

Okay. I uninstalled all my wordpress installations, got rid of the aforementioned folders and any wp files & folders for a totally fresh start.

I re-installed wp on clairevitucci.com and instigated a network. This all seems good; however, when I visit the subdomains mountainmontage.com & blog.clairevitucci.com I am just getting a hosting page. After calling the host company they deemed it because there are no files in directory. I can’t add files though, because there’s no page to login to wp with?…

When I visit http://clairevitucci.com/wp-admin/network/sites.php I see the following under domains:
    clairevitucci.com
    mountainmontage
    blog

If I choose to go to the dashboard from here for the subdomains I get a 404 error.

So close, and yet so far away. When I login to the C-panel file manager I see that wp created folders called blog and mountainmontage at the same level as my wp is installed, but these folders only contain the bare minimum and no wp files or folders.

I was hoping the fresh start would be all I needed… Any advise is welcome. Thank you!

So in the above examples – domain.com = clairevitucci.com. This is my main domain and the one I chose as the multisite root. (mysite.com = mountainmontage.com & blog=blog.clairevitucci.com).

When I go to clairevitucci.com/wp-admin/network/sites.php I get a table with the following info – no actual sites listed.

    Path Last Updated	Registered	Users
    / 2013/03/28	2013/02/22	cvitucci
    /mountainmontage/ 2013/03/28	2013/03/06	cvitucci
    /blog/ 2013/03/28	2013/03/06	cvitucci

Both mountainmontage/wp-admin/network/sites.php & blog.clairevitucci.com/wp-admin/network/sites.php bring up errors as they likely should.

Going to my host file directory, within the clairevitucci folder I do not see a folder for either blog or mountainmontage. WP appears to be installed at the same file level as the clairevitucci file.

There are however files for mountainmontage and blog at the same level as clairevitucci & the wp installation. Within each of these files appears WP-admin, wp-conent, wp-includes, etc. folders.

Should I delete these folders, or uninstall wp on both mountainmontage.com and blog?

So I get the same thing as mentioned above. Just the following paths listed.
    /
    /mysite/
    /blog/

Should I uninstall the wp from mysite.com, keeping domain.com with the above paths?

    Thank you!

Okay, you can’t connect existing sites to a Network. The way the Multisite Network works is you have one, and only one, install of WP, and then you create sites within that network.

Whoa! That little snippet is big news and accounts for why the “folders” worked, but not the domains. Greatly appreciating your direction to fix my gross error.

domain.com/wp-admin/network says: You have 3 sites and 1 user.
When I search sites it comes up with the following paths:
    /
    /mysite/
    /blog/

    (@portabellmaccom)

I didn’t actually create any folders. I had already installed wp on the domain.com site and mysite.com before trying to connect them via a multisite network.

In the end mapping to said “folders” seemed to work from within the network root site. I couldn’t get the domain mapping to go straight to domain.com for some reason.

So, the only way I was able to get the network to “work” was by placing the site folders within the main site – the parentheses show the file paths. I already had the domains – domain.com and blog.mysite.com.

Ideally I wanted the network to work directly with the stand alone domains/sites that are all hosted together with mysite.com in the same account. To get things to work I ended up pointing the wp file paths (noted in parentheses) to domain.com & blog.mysite.com respectively.

Let me know if you can use any further clarification or info. Thank you!
