(Just marking this as resolved, pending discussion with the plugin developer in the Just One Category plugin’s forum.)

Try using Firefox – MSIE seems to stall for me sometimes.

It appears to be related to a plugin called Just One Category, so I am following up with that developer. Turning off Just One Category resolves the problems (but brings back the original problem/feature of all subcategory posts showing on the main category page, which I do not want to have).

I don’t know exactly why it is suddenly showing this behavior as it was working fine before, but it presumably is related to WP upgrades. There has been a WP upgrade since I last tried to add a category.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Re spelling of category or slug – I dont think so, as I have tried adding various categories, some with very simple names like test2.

The posts how up fine in older categories, just not in new ones.

I don’t want to have broken pages on the site, but the behavior is simple. Clicking on one of the new categories (from the category navigation or added to the menu) takes me to that category page, and it simply says “Not found” where the post would normally go. The breadcrumb navigation shows the proper trail to the category then posting.

It’s almost as if new categories are unable to get a correct listing of postings to display on the category display page.
