This sounds like something you could do with added custom user data, maybe with https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/advanced-custom-fields/ and then add the rendered badge where appropriate in the Templates – seems more like a customization than a feature that should be added in general.
The field where you can choose a group allows you search for the desired group. You can input one or more characters to reveal and choose any of the groups on your site, the choice is not limited in that sense.
What is limited is the number of groups that are offered initially in that field, as you report, you can see the first ones in alphabetical order but you can choose any of the groups you have.
It seems that this is related to Groups but also to the Groups Integration for WooCommerce which is a commercial product, I’m going to point you to relevant tables here but as per the forum guidelines regarding commercial products please use the Support section on WooCommerce.com to request further help there if needed.

By the way, the latest comments displayed on the site’s posts which are rendered by the plugin seem to look fine and you are using the latest version. I would recommend against reverting to a previous version. Hi! I would recommend to use the previous version as you’re already doing and then simply adapt your current styles to the new layout in 3.0.0. The new layout is more sensible than the previous one and easier to handle, based on grid layout.
Hi! The trunk and 3.0.0 don’t contain that file, I guess that is an inconsistency in the checksum tool which cannot be fixed with a patch. The sources in https://downloads.wp.xz.cn/plugin-checksums/decent-comments/3.0.0 point to the trunk and 3.0.0 tag but the file is not included in them even though it appears listed in the checksum list.
