In reply to: user "subscribers"You mentioned Jetpack earlier so you might already know about going to ‘Jetpack > Site Stats > Subscriptions > Followers, then clicking the ‘blog’ link to get a downloadable list of email followers.
I like to put myself in the user’s shoes and understand their experience, so I often create a test user profile using a different email address. I can then assign it different roles, log in as that user and see what capabilities and notifications apply. Maybe give that a shot.

In reply to: user "subscribers"Good question. As far as I know, registered users must still opt-in or ‘follow’ to get new post notifications sent via email. Much like the box at the bottom of this reply field. If you haven’t already, take a look at the codex regarding user Roles http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Roles_and_Capabilities
Might be fun to run a poll on your site or even publish a post asking your subscribers to see who responds.
