I was using 1.10.11-standard and the widget worked fine and displayed events, but once I upgraded to 2.0.13 the widget stopped pulling in events and only now says “There are no upcoming events.” Just like your issue if I click the “View Calendar” button I’m taken to the calendar page and all my events are there.
I thought there might have been an issue with the upgrade, so I restored my database to a version prior to adding the 1.10.11 version of the plugin and just install the 2.0.13 version. This however did not resolve the issue.
This is all on wordpress 3.8.3.
Any pointers on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
