Hi there, sorry for a late reply yet again.
I have now tried a complete reinstall and I still find the same error with a fresh installation of the site. I have given ownership to the files to www-data and temporarily given the permission 0777 to all files, but the error still appears.
The error used to embed a WordPress 404 page, but now embeds an Apache 404 page.
By embed, I mean that the customize panel is still there, but the preview is a 404 page.
Defining WP_DEBUG does not give me any errors.
The .htaccess-file exists, and the contents are the standard rewrite rule set from WordPress.

Hi there, sorry for late reply.
I do have Twenty Twenty-one installed. I am using WordPress 5.8 and to make sure, I updated the permissions of the files and folders, though I think they were correct to begin with. I am still experiencing the same issues.
