“Yoast SEO” was the way to go 🙂
Ah, All In One SEO only allows you to draw from the “Featured” image if you upgrade to their pro account.

After 12 hours it just started working again!
It seems like a pretty vanilla expectation to be able to specify the summary which appears in an RSS feed…but in order to do this I need to learn PHP? :-/
