Your workaround worked!
I changed the old URL to the new one on the 404 page and was taken back to the “Welcome to Site Kit” screen. I then clicked on the “Go to my Dashboard” button which took me back to the 404 page. I then changed the URL for a second time and was taken to the current site’s WordPress dashboard which displayed the URL mismatch error you mentioned. But I was then able to set up Site Kit again and it now seems to work.

Yes, I followed the steps on the page you referred to. I edited the index.php file to point at the new subdirectory as per step 9 on that page.

I tried resetting Site Kit but when I then try to connect it again, it still goes to the same old URL.
Just to clarify, the url of my site hasn’t changed, it’s the location of the WordPress files that’s changed. The url has been and still is url.com whereas the WordPress files were at url.com/v2017 and are now at url.com/v2021. Hope that makes sense.
