Thanks to both! I needed this confirmation to discuss with my client. Yes the MySQL server is running.

I successfully created a test_myisam table.

Thank you threadi. Yes it’s a Litespeed server and support suggested I use the litespeed plugin. Never imagined a cache plugin or (lack of one) could influence backend behavior.

I’ll install and see what happens.
