Found ! Custom Posts Per Page, an unmaintained extension (https://fr.ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/custom-posts-per-page/), seems to be responsible. I have disabled it and the pagination behaves as expected now.

Maybe I should investigate if some other plugin interferes with the pagination ? I can do that tomorrow 😉
