Thanks Yurii! I’ll try and see what happens.
Best
also, I’ve updated user information, uploaded profile pic and background pic, but still the “Your profile is looking a little empty. Why not add some information!” message won’t go away..I found this issue a few days ago and tried with several user profiles. I guess maybe there are some conflicts between the NewsExo theme and UM plugin, and maybe the theme is not using standard settings..

Thanks Yurii, for the profile instruction. Well, a new issue..When I update user profile by leaving a short introduction (http://neafridays.org/user/neafridays/?um_action=edit), like “hi..hello..”, the Author names (NEA Fridays) at the front page all disappeared, no matter how I undo the changes.

leave a word in the author information box: https://prnt.sc/eZtYL0Mg7olU
Author names all disappeared: https://prnt.sc/E1ze3HJFL8mpWell, maybe my case is rather rare..not sure about the causes though..
Best,
Thanks Yurii, it works nicely. however, here comes a new issue: UM takes over settings of all users’ profile pics and I can’t change other user’s profile pic/avatar (http://neafridays.org/category/culture/), you’ll find profile pic of user “Test” is same as NEA Fridays (admin).
So, it seems that UM works nicely with the latest code when there is one user (i.e., admin) or multiple users while they use the same profile pic. Gravatar does give different profile pics to different users (seems randomly) but I can’t upload my own pic files for different users. I can change the default profile pic by uploading a pic, but it applies to all users. It’s not quite convenient if people want to use their own pics as profile/avatar pic.
The best solution so far, at my side, is to set “One User Avatar” plugin “Replace the custom avatars functionality in the Ultimate Member plugin” so the admin or multiple users may upload different pics as user profile pics, and the excellent functions of UM especially including member controlling can be used.
Different user pics: https://prnt.sc/_4Qu9fqK1-rU
BTW, Ultimate Member – Settings-Profile Photo Upload, there is a switch on/off option for “profile photo uploader”, where can I find it? Maybe I missed some setting options but just can’f find the “profile photo uploader” except for the one for Default Profile Photo: https://prnt.sc/0S1k-Aoo4uH3
Thanks Yurii, you’ve been very helpful!
Thanks a lot! it works right away at the front page, and I guess UM uses different pic so they look different, but it works. Well, still one minor thing/difference at the user/writer profile section at the bottom of the post when the post content is shown:
without UM/new Code: http://neafridays.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/001.jpg
with UM/new Code: http://neafridays.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/002.jpg
Thanks a lot!
Thanks, Yurii, the code works with UM on NewsExo theme after deactivate One User Avatar, but not perfectly. I think it could also be the issue with the theme.
I deactivated One User Avatar first, but..
without UM/Code: http://neafridays.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/a.jpg
with UM/Code: http://neafridays.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/b.jpg
Thanks anyway.
well, I think the problem solved…just check “Replace the custom avatars functionality in the Ultimate Member plugin” at the settings of “One User Avatar” plugin and everything works fine.
updated url to pics:
original: http://neafridays.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/1.png
with code: http://neafridays.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/2.pngby the way, the “EA” profile thumbnail was set by One User Avatar and it looks perfect. but after installing UM, it takes over avatar profile photo settings and shows default photo of wrong size, and won’t let other plugins (e.g., One User Avatar) make any changes.
Thanks Yurii. I’ve added the .CSS code to the theme at wp-admin panel and it does make some change, however, not properly:
original: http://neafridays.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/1.png
with code: http://neafridays.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/2.pngAgain, after I deactivate UM, the profile photo/thumbnail looks fine again.
So, can anyone find a solution? maybe it’s the issue at the NewsExo theme side?
Thanks for replying. here are the links to the screenshots,
original (without UM): http://neafridays.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/original.jpg
with UM: http://neafridays.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/with-UM.jpg
So, without UM, the user photo is like an icon, but with UM, however I change the setting at UM (profile photo size, etc.), it just shows a large square photo. It looks normal as the original again after uninstalling UM.
By the way, if I change user photos with other plugins like “One User Avatar,” it works perfectly, showing new user profile photos as small rounded icon at the front/preview page and a normal size photo at the profile page.
So, it is possible that UM plugin sets the user photo size as the normal size at both front/preview pages and profile pages so the small icon size (like a rounded icon) for preview or front pages was not included/designed?
