In reply to: “Previous entries” link points to non-existent pageWell, nine months have passed since I last contributed to this thread. There are certain things a human being can achieve within the space of nine months. Answering a question about backwards navigation does not seem to be one of them.

In reply to: “Previous entries” link points to non-existent pageDear Dances,
It can only be hoped that you can somehow feel the sea of gratitude gravitating in the general direction of your planet. I’m so infinitely happy that somebody has finally deigned to speak to me.
This is almost as good as a solution to my software problem.
But if you cannot send my a helpful hypersonic ray, how about a Mars bar? 😉Yours in eternal gratitude,

In reply to: “Previous entries” link points to non-existent pageWell, just in case you’re interested: I put a blog entry up on this, and also thought of a makeshift workaround, sort of.
Have a look:

In reply to: “Previous entries” link points to non-existent pageWhat a fascinating soliloquy.
To blog, or not to blog –
that is not the question.

In reply to: “Previous entries” link points to non-existent pageWould somebody please talk to me? I’m feeling rather alone with this problem. *sniff*
And – oh! – by the way, if you’re just curious what the real address of this ever so slightly dysfunctional blog is, here it is:

In reply to: “Previous entries” link points to non-existent pageInterestingly enough, this still has not been resolved.
I think it would already help me, if somebody could at least say whether this is a difficult problem and you don’t know what to do about it, or whether I’m just too stupid to describe my problem.
Thanks for bothering.

In reply to: “Previous entries” link points to non-existent pageThis is still bothering me, and I’d still be grateful for help. Thanks.

In reply to: backup problemOkay, nobody reads this anyway, because the thread is marked “resolved”, so – hm.
My problem has been solved, too, in case anyone cares 😉Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Blog seems to have vanished! Empty page!Sorry for answering that late – I had forgotten about this post because yes, my host did reply, and the support team explained that it was due to a bug in my FTP program; they then told me which options to check (“execute” had to be on for all three columns). So I made this change – and, relief, everything was back to normal.
I agree that it seems very odd for my changes to have the effects I described, but – well, it happened like that, and the problem went away after I had changed the permissions back.
Thanks for taking interest in my problem!

In reply to: Blog seems to have vanished! Empty page!@dianev: I’m using WP 2.0.8 – because my host only offers MySQL 3.23.

In reply to: Blog seems to have vanished! Empty page! Thanks for your reply, Class. I’ve already tried to get in touch with the host support, I suppose they’ll do something about it in the morning.
You said: “WP is sending me my backups at fixed intervals” – well, that’s what I’ve been trying to get WP to do for me, too. I clicked the radio button for “send backup to my e-mail address” – but still the message was
“backup directory not writable” … Hm. Mysterious.Forum: Everything else WordPress
In reply to: backup problemHelp, please!
I got the same error message, so I tried to apply advice from above. Using WS_FTP, I accessed my remote WordPress folder, right-clicked on the “wp-content” folder and chose “CHMOD” in the context menu. There I clicked the “write” option for “Group” and “Other”, then clicked “OK”.
When I returned to the other browser tab, where I had the WP-admin panel open, it said “page no longer valid”, so I logged into my wp-admin again … but there was no “backup” button any more – and – far worse – when I click on “view site”, I get a blank, white page! My blog seems to have gone.
Luckily, when I click on “manage – posts” the posts still seem to be there. But nothing is shown at the blog address.
What can I do?
I’d be most grateful for helpful advice. And another question: if backing up is such trouble – is it even worth it?

In reply to: Only MySQL 3.23 available -> what next? Thanks for your reply.
However, I downloaded 2.0.8 – and got exactly the same error message as before:ERROR: WordPress 2.1 requires MySQL 4.0.0 or higher
although I was using the 2.0.8 files.
Do I have to delete anything first?EDIT: Well, let me answer my final question above … I hadn’t thought of the fact that my FTP program does not overwrite files which are newer than the other files. – So, in the meantime, I deleted the “old” 2.1 files, copied the 2.08 stuff onto the server and – it seems to work.
Thanks again. 🙂
