In reply to: How can I edit a file ?!?!!?!Yeah … I know π I guess I pretty much have given up on it for now.
Anyway … I got a response from the site administrator or mod or whatever (about the link to WorPress forums) … and it was basically just a comment to the effect that ‘yeah, I gotta change that’ …
It didn’t really sound to me like it was at the top of his list π
Thanks again everyone … I’m outta here …

In reply to: How can I edit a file ?!?!!?!Yeup – that’s exactly right moshu. That’s what I meant by ‘upload’.

In reply to: How can I edit a file ?!?!!?!vkaryl … I’ll let you know what happens.
moshu … yes, I definitely can ‘upload’ files. I had been using WebCT as a support for my on-campus class, but was finding it to be ‘overkill’. So when I looked for an alternative, I was careful to adopt something that handled file uploading and linking – that ability was about 50% of the whole point, for me. Check the blog – I’m not lying !! π Go check one of the ‘Pages’ for a course – I have files there containing the course schedule, the instructions for a term paper, etc.
(http://robcashin.edublogs.org/) – pick a course from “Pages” – say HN2150. You’ll find files in there.(I am starting to suspect you’re right – you can’t edit files in MU – and that’s what I’m checking out – in the proper forum π

In reply to: How can I edit a file ?!?!!?!I am in the process of doing that as we speak – er, type. This is as frustrating for me as it is for you guys. Thanks for your understanding. Let’s see if they change it.

In reply to: How can I edit a file ?!?!!?!Thanks moshu … and everyone else. Meanwhile, I should point out I followed the link to ‘ww.wp.xz.cn…’ from the Dashboard of my edublogs account; furthermore, that link was contained within a section entitled “Welcome to WordPress MU”
I think it’s confusing at best, and misleading at worst, for them to direct users to this forum from there – wouldn’t you agree?
Sincere thanks, and sorry if I wasted anyone’s time.

In reply to: How can I edit a file ?!?!!?!Well, bandwidth’s pretty cheap π But I know your time is not. That’s why I asked if there is somewhere else I should go for these questions.
My blog: http://robcashin.edublogs.org/
If this forum is not where I should be, please let me know. Thanks for your help and your time in the meantime …

In reply to: How can I edit a file ?!?!!?!Ah .. yes, it IS a free hosted blog. So mu.ww.wp.xz.cn/forums … the same would go for there? No support for free hosted blogs?

In reply to: How can I edit a file ?!?!!?!Thanks Katgirl !! I looked – the version appears to be ‘wordpress-mu-1.0’
Still not sure if it should give me a “File” option, but at least I know.
(Sorry for all the questions … I’m a total newbie at this. I’m using it as an ‘edublog’ – I’m a college instructor and this is a great way to provide files & info to students, post announcements etc. I’ve dug through the forum posts and documentation, but I really couldn’t find what I was looking for. If I should be over in the ‘sandbox’ somewhere asking this, please let me know.)

In reply to: How can I edit a file ?!?!!?!Thanks moshu ..
2 issues / questions with what you said
1. I can’t seem to connect with FTP. Should I generally be able to view my root directory, or should I FTP to a default directory of some sort? (Could this vary by installation?)
2. I understand what you’re sating about edit locally & upload, but this is a file that I would want to update daily for at least a short period of time, so if I could edit it instead, it would be so much more convenient.
(Related point – I wonder if I don’t get a “File” option under my Admin panel simply because I have no files there that I have permission to Edit … ?)
Thanks all

In reply to: How can I edit a file ?!?!!?!Thanks for replying Samboll … even though I didn’t get a solution, you at least confirmed that indeed that’s what I *should* see. Also, you prodded me to wonder whether it’s a WordPress version issue. (I don’t THINK it is, although I am having a hard time figuring out exactly what version my host is providing. They seem to be fairly up-to-date and state-of-the-art, so I would think it’s the latest version.)
Thanks again Samboll … still open to suggestions from anyone
