In reply to: How to make a WP page with one big image? You’ll need to create a new page template for that page removing the header and footer.
Call it Blank Page Template.
If you’re lucky, the theme might already have a blank page template:
https://optimizerwp.com/documentation/how-to-set-up-a-blank-page-template/Shannon
the other time I figured it out fast. I had to re-install from scratch. this time? Ive been trying 5 hours now, the options the article suggests are simply not there.
There is no way to make a blank template right now, and the alternative is cryptic and I dont get it.
Ive done alot of coding for decades, but WP is very difficult for me to follow.
It appears non deterministic, in that selecting menu items and commands wont work 9 times you click on them, the 10th will.
Just want a blank page again, it worked but had a server issue. Now its back to making a blank template but I upgraded to the newest WP after it kept asking and asking to install the latest. Seems like the feature to make a blank template was taken away
Need 2 pages that just have an image on them. Thanks for any help, the new version seems different.
The company i work with has a dedicated server machine. The expert who used to set them up is sadly not available.
I specialize in other things. how servers work is interesting but im busy. I about go insane trying to configure wordpress, as ive done web pages in asp 20+ years.
thanks for the link, perhaps will just watch videos that will burn time but nobody to ask, nobody to help set it up.
I asked for windows server support, but they said this is a “wordpress” question. Ask here and its a “windows server” question. I may as well lay down in a ditch and die
the win server has an existing site for something else. I thought server could host more than just one application? at $1200 a pop for the OS that must be why Microsoft is so rich.
So it seems I have to advise each of 100s of users to modify their computer and firewall to open port 8600, even though it seems like it would be 8600 on the server. it says firewall is OFF and its got red everywhere
setting up this way because I have one server, more than one application. if its one server->one app? Then Im ruined.

In reply to: Lost mysql password, deleted mysql now it will not installThanks Steve, well at least your good energy may have helped BUT its setup now, have the pages, but it only serves to localhost. Im remoted in to that windows machine and on google chrome on the machine I can see the wordpress pages.
on my home pc? it says (site name) took too long to respond.
I cannot get it to serve my wordpress site. this is Windows Server 2014 and its setup in the IIS config.
Cannot see it except on the local machine. how to make it work? thanks

In reply to: Lost mysql password, deleted mysql now it will not installThanks It started working, if you did something, thanks! I installed mysql 5.7 set it all up, then did platform installer again, this time it downloaded mysql again but ver 5.1 and said error setting up mysql, you lose. Then I ran it again, this time it installed, dont know why it works but got into wordpress.
I really miss using linux, so easy and direct, just open a terminal and say it directly
Now that asp.net Core runs linux? when the hardware gets here its going to be the new system setup.
So I guess the problem is solved. but how does one open the PHP admin window?

In reply to: Lost mysql password, deleted mysql now it will not installthanks but ive been trying for over an hour, like picking up jello with pliers, or the links are just practical jokes. download here? just kidding if its tuesday then lift one foot and click here? oh you only had 2 seconds, the link is gone. wont be back for 7 days. just kidding heres the link? oh you missed it. Mysql? enterprise edition only $5000 whats your visa number? free mysql? details about freeing up memory in some mysql version. mysql for windows? nothing found, try again when youre sober. ok lets try PHP, download here. open the folder. no setup.exe no setup period. do I need a psychic to toss magic sand on it and it then connects to the OS and is setup that way?
try mySQL again. got the connector/NET maybe installed. so is the database installing? nothing is happening. Oh, you have to already have it installed in order for it to work?
This all got installed in 15 seconds the first time I did platform installer, which is total garbage. was it some high school project that never got finished? i want to hold up a baseball bat and threaten the computer, but that probably wont work either, I did that before. note, always!! wear face protection when you smash stuff with a bat! had 2 black eyes for over a week. guess I lost that battle.
Ive installed word press 6 or 7 times, had it working before, but this is out of control, no instructions to resolve where its at, no way to install mysql, no way to launch the PHP interface, instructions that dont have enough detail
maybe the lack of sleep is starting to show. sorry.
so anyway Im trying the instructions but its not doing what I expect

In reply to: How to make a WP page with one big image?Shannon,
Now a new problem the slider works only in preview, and instead of a left arrow on the left and right arrow on the right? it has 2 left arrows on either side of the image?
Then I add pictures into the media they show up, I can select and edit them but if i put into the slider? they show up as a tiny box with X, like bad image? i have 5 images, only one i downloaded works. The rest show the x. cant find anything wrong with them! they just dont work
What could be done to make images work? why does wordpress admin page not flag them if theyre not good?

In reply to: How to make a WP page with one big image?Thank you so much! this is very helpful. But where is the HTML stored for any page? I looked at responsive slides there, they use the CDN for javascript and their product, where to put the <script> files?
WP is such a different paradigm, it seems like after making a change and saving it and going back its a different place than where I went to modify something; but hopefully with time.
with this one item the responsiveslides if that could work it would be done. so close, but dont find where to modify the code thanks again!

In reply to: How to make a WP page with one big image?Thank you!! It looks very good now. But the image while set to “full screen” is not full, its spaced 20% down from the top, but thats with just using the blank template and image
will try the other example with changing the php also. html/css I know. php no.
Would like to have a carousel there with full width images. Hopefully once I get the pattern of how things are done it will help alot

In reply to: Migrated site still holds old URLthanks. and does this help with doing the backup? currently everything is command line, would be nice to have a page driven database backup and copy utility

In reply to: Trouble trying to migrate WordPress site to new serverI just do not get the import of the database.
I make a clean new install of wordpress. and I have the old site’s database and I saved it per procedures into a file.sql
I went into the wp-config.php file and copied across the login for THAT database, but there are other databases there, and the root password is there also.
just do not understand what the different parts are. editing the config file did not work and I dont know how to check it or what to look for,
!Important
open Administrator Dos window (right click on cmd.exe, run as administrator)
go to c:
cd c:\
type in this command:
where php.iniRhyker2U thank you, I found the php.ini file after hours of searching, so its location is
C:\Program Files (x86)\IIS Express\PHP\v5.5I changed the max upload variable to 95Mb, it was set at 2Mb
Now in the Importer? that increased the allowed size from 2Mb to 8Mb, hooray! making progress, and I can import now. But maybe its a logarithmic variable setting, not absolute? so multiply by 6 to double its value?
But I have my imported files.
Would be nice to bring in the basic web design, will work on your suggestions for that
I use it for visual studio 2015 development and hosting. More familiar than with Apache, yes the links you have date to 2007? I’m worried that IIS will drop support for WordPress
Just need to know if it will be supported in five years
Ok thanks.. Will look there tomorrow. Is there an export limit too? Main site export had a zillion errors but did export much of it
And do you think my WordPress folder from MAMP can transfer easily??
In MAMP the MySQL has a password like root but in this Microsoft install it had me make keys to encode the password, didn’t do that before
And admin pwd is different. I put two weeks into that folder and want to merge it if possible
Besides the MySQL command line tool, don’t know a visual way to modify Params
