I deactivated all plugins as suggested but problem still persist.

Using a customized theme and was not having this issue till recently… after getting floods of spam messages into my site. Thanks to tips from this support group and i was able to, at least, reduce it to manageable number. And of course Askimet plugin was there for the rescue.

Will consider switching theme. Guess that is the last option. Will give feedback.
