Thanks to all – back in business – I am hosting on Network Solutions and set up their $10/month site virus protection hoping it will not happen again!

and more – when I say site crashes I mean I can’t get into it. trying to put the site address in http://www.rickwilking.net or trying log in doesn’t work. But, after 5 minutes or so I can get back in.

The only thing that worked was completely reuploading everything but the wp-content directory and the wp-config.php files. Thanks for the tip so I didn’t lose my content. BUT was a ridiculous exercise to put 3.1 out there causing so much grief for so many people!

Thanks for the quick reply. If I re-upload will I wipe out my database? Foolishly don’t have a backup of that on my machine.

I did review that link you mentioned but all the “repairs” mentioned there seem to need ftp access.
