I was having the same problem. I was able to fix it by switching from Classic mode to the Gutenberg mode. Go to Settings, Writing, and change the Default Editor from Classic to Block. Then it is possible to edit your links in the usual way.

Strangely, I now find that ReCaptcha will let messages go through even though there are errors in the code, even if 2 digits are wrong. I didn’t test it further to see just how much error it will allow. Previously, it was refusing to deliver messages with a single transposed digit, and one of my students in Japan was completely unable to contact me on more than one occasion, even though he claimed to have entered all the digits correctly.
Since I can’t tolerate this uncertainty, and since I already have Akismet installed on my site, I will follow your suggestion and get rid of ReCaptcha. If I have a problem with spam in the future, I may reconsider this decision.
