Too late (sorry).. But I will start a new thread, because now the fonts show correctly on the Customize screen but not when the website is displayed on its own in a separate browser tab. Thanks in advance for your help.
UPDATE: Now the fonts aren’t showing correctly in Customize, even though the correct font family is selected for each control.

Also having same issue. Font Family is blank for most of my controls in Theme Typography. In the meantime I will just apply the manual fix described by cobberas63.
