Seems Ive found the answer @ http://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/plugin-memcached-object-cache-cannot-activate-plugin?replies=3
However: this plugin should really deliver the readme.txt in WP plugin admin rather than die mysteriously upon activation (or better, if possible move or sym-link the file upon activation, remove it on deactivation & message non-permission-proper systems!).
Hope this helps anyone installing directly via wp-admin wholl miss the README.txt.
Same here (on Debian Linux with WP 3.2.1 (latest):
Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare wp_cache_add() (previously declared in /var/www/blog.xxx.com/wp-includes/cache.php:24) in /var/www/blog.xxx.com/wp-content/plugins/memcached/object-cache.php on line 17
