In reply to: Accessibility confusion (3 questions)Well, if we’re being technical, it’s black on grey, and many see them just fine. But like I said, I appreciate your input and I’ll take the feedback into consideration.
And this is a webcomic site. Most of our visitors come here to read comics, they know what they’re getting and understand the reference to “pulp,” which is a comic book reference: pulp fiction. Which is clearly marked on the page (the text passes Accessibility tests in terms of contrast ratio). The focus, keyboard navigation, and skip link are in fact related as they all pertain to accessibility. And, as I said above, there is a list of issues I’m working to resolve one after the other.
I’ve added SEO descriptions on the back end for all my pages and images. The SEO needs to be tweaked a bit (page titles are too long right now) but the SEO is not a problem. Just the Accessibility issues.

In reply to: Accessibility confusion (3 questions)Hey Joy, thanks for getting back to me so soon, I appreciate it.
Yeah, sites a bit of a mess right now as the accessibility tweaks are in flux at the moment.
I was aware of of the missing skip to content link and the problems with keyboard navigation. The skip to content link is coming and the keyboard navigation issue is what I’m trying to resolve now, hence the questions about page headings and the tabindex and such.
I’m surprised you couldn’t see or make sense of the menu icons, though. I’ll have to think about that. The images on the home page are the cover of the books and they link to the interior pages of the comic books, which is where the lightbox is active. There is no lightbox on the home page.
Yeah, for the header images in the banner I had a hidden Easter Egg but I realized that was confusing and intend to change that as well.
The general lack of overall text is a design issue. I’ll have to think about that. I have alt text for all the images and I have plans for screen reader text. I’ll have to explore the lightbox to see if it’s accessible.
Thanks for the input about the tabindex and the feedback overall about the site. Lots of work to do but you’ve helped me tremendously.
I think I’ll be able to work out all the issues now. Thank you once again for getting me on the right path. Hope all and everyone is well on your end. Stay safe.Forum: Accessibility
In reply to: Accessibility confusion (3 questions)Damn Joy, you’re like my Yoda. The first advice you gave me about using gallery plugins was right on, and now you’ve cleared the haze on issues I’ve been struggling with for months. Thank you so much.
One query about the answer you just gave, to be certain I’m understanding/explaining correctly. (Please excuse my ignorance on the topic, I’m not second-guessing your expertise). In regards to the images being wrapped in links: yes, the header images are wrapped in links (when clicked they go to different pages) but the actual comic book pages only have the src link, and then those media files are served in a lightbox (via the Foobox lightbox plugin) upon clicking them. Does that technically qualify them as being linked or does that mean I should add some focusable feature such as tabindex? Thanks again for taking the time to answer.

My bad, it wasn’t your plugin that was causing the problem. Great plugin.

In reply to: Fallback for image galleries?Zing! Yes, that would be the easiest solution, but that’s not why I use the wonderous WordPress. I like that you can customize the platform to do what you like. Besides, I disdain most lightboxes. I think most look unfinished, or have poor aesthetic balance.

In reply to: Fallback for image galleries?Well there you go. I had no idea what that was until now. That’s the benefit of surrounding yourself with people smarter than you.
I just looked it up and will do more research, but I use several galleries on my pages (it’s a webcomic-type site). I guess I’d have to add the same images in the editor, down below the galleries, and position them with CSS?Hey Phil, I found this page in the WordPress Foogallery support forum: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/modifying-existing-hover-effect/
It covers how to tweak the font styles for the “Sarah” preset. I can probably adapt this to the “Ming” and “Oscar” presets, and then use that to modify the color of the “Oscar” overlay.
Sorry to waste your time. As always I appreciate the timely, quality support.- This reply was modified 7 years, 4 months ago by ShadowmarkPro.
Hey Phil, thanks. I appreciate you taking the time either way.
The link is: https://www.theshadowmark.com
It’s our home page. All three images are using Foogallery presets but I’d like to 1) tweak the size/style of preset fonts, and 2)change the color overlay to “red”for the second image.D’oh! Just read that this feature will be deprecated. Never mind.

In reply to: I have a problem using the new editorOk. I feel much better now. Had to vent a bit. With the Classic editor plugin the damage isn’t as bad but there’s still damage. Hopefully the Classic Editor plugin will continue past 2022 or WordPress will as it as an option instead of core.

In reply to: I have a problem using the new editorI did install the classic editor. My problem isnt with Cloudflare, as I said. Ever since I attempted to use the Gutenburg editor my site is f@cked. I have to upload images several times just to get it to show once, my media library stalls out and won’t show each image, plugins are f@cked – they won’t open and/or won’t deactivate… and on. This really needs to be fixed or I’ll be forced to find another CMS. I can’t believe a company with this much experience can so drastically ruin an established platform. I’ve been trting to rework *2* posts for two days!!!! Two posts! I should’ve been finished within minutes yesterday!!!!!!!!

In reply to: I have a problem using the new editorNo worries, there’s strength in numbers. Maybe someone will listen if we all chime in together.
The Cloudflare app is a plug-in used in conjunction with the (mostly free) Cloudflare CDN. Among other things, a content Delivery Network caches your content around the globe to allow for faster downloads.
However, I wrote to my web hosting service and after reviewing the error logs it turns out that the Cloudflare app was *not* in fact the culprit. I plan to dig deeper tomorrow, as I’ve lost waaay too much time tonight trying to create a simple post. I downloaded the classic editor.
Even without the media library bugs Gutenberg is tiring. Blocks disappear, new ones appear out of nowhere, posts designed to be identical randomly change only to return to normal later on, and more.
I don’t use a lot of plugins and prefer to keep my site lean, which WordPress stressed for years. Now, if you look at the code in Gutenberg, it looks bloated AF, just another page builder. If I wanted that, I’d have downloaded one years ago.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: I have a problem using the new editorSo I found the conflict. The Cloudflare app seems to interfere with the new editor.

In reply to: I have a problem using the new editorBeen trying to simply rework an old post, literally just rying to swap out the images with updated images. No exaggeration, 2 hours on the same post. WTF?
