Ipstenu: Great news. I thought I had localized the problem to when I activated “RPS Image Gallery”, as it was working when I deactivated it and not when it was activated. But that did not last long until it wasn’t working even with it deactivated. I was also having a problem with JetPack causing me to be unable to edit media. So I added the code you suggested and it is working properly now. Thank you very much.

I still have that error when I log in to the dashboard showing up at the top. Notice: Undefined index: QUERY_STRING in /hermes/bosoraweb114/b2945/ipg.charl2/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/class.jetpack.php on line 2406

I still have the debug=false line in wp-config. Should I take that out? It appears to be working though. I have disabled quite a few of the Jetpack features. I’m not going to try to figure it out now as I have a lot of work to catch up on while it is working. If you have a suggestion for getting rid of the error, please let me know.

    Thanks again.

Ipstenu: I did that. The results are posted above in two posts. I was unable to figure out how to check in Mozilla as the new version does not show an “error console” as indicated in the link you provided. The “DOM 7011” has be confused on what to do. Thanks in advance for any help on the errors you can give me.

I was getting ready to reload WP and started activating a few plugins that would keep the web site working until I actually reloaded. I use JetPack for the contact form and needed to activate that. I went through the settings and deactivated several features of JetPack that I did not need. It now appears to be working but not sure for how long. I will update later or tomorrow either way.

I did not get the jetpack error the last time I went to dashboard, but when I first signed in I got it. I still have the debug=true code in the wp-config file.

I spoke to the company about it several times while trying to resolve a backup problem. They were not familiar with the visual editor problem and suggested I subscribe to their WP experts service for a fee. I may have to go that route if the rest of this doesn’t work.

I just deleted and reloaded the wp-admin folder again and it did not help.

It would appear to me that the “post” and “load-scripts” files are corrupted. I’m going to try to delete the files and folders again and reload from the new download. If that doesn’t work I may have to uninstall WP and reload from scratch. If I do will I be able to restore the pages I have built with the content that I exported?

Here is another code I got today and once yesterday.
In the post.php file line 504 and 505 it calls to switchEditors and give this error:
    ‘switchEditors’ is undefined

At the top of the dashboard I also get this:
Notice: Undefined index: QUERY_STRING in /hermes/bosoraweb114/b2945/ipg.charl2/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/class.jetpack.php on line 2406

When I click on the “help” button I get this error:
    SCRIPT1006: Expected ‘)’
    File: load-scripts.php, Line: 47, Column: 80

When I click on the “add media” button I get this:
    SCRIPT1006: Expected ‘)’
    File: load-scripts.php, Line: 88, Column: 410

I also noticed that even after I deactivated WP Edit, the buttons still show up.

I did delete WP Edit and reload it with no help also.

I was using IE11 with the problem occurring. I did the debug and here are the errors I got.
DOM7011: The code on this page disabled back and forward caching. For more information, see: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=291337

I tried Firefox and the first time it ran the Visual editor worked, but when I tried to add new page it would not work. I went back to the original page that worked and it no longer worked. In Firefox 34 it does not have an “error console”. What do I use to find the errors?

Before I reinstalled WP, I exported the content to a file using the tools on the dashboard. Should I try a complete new install and then import the file? Should I try upgrading to 4.1?

    Thread Starter Smambo

    (@smambo)

I completed all that already with no change. I reinstalled WP as you told me to, keeping the wp-config file and WP-content folder. I signed into the dashboard and it was still not working. I tried activating some of the plugins to see if that would work (see above when I reactivated them all, and that did not help so I deactivated all of them again and tried the 2014 theme, again, and it still didn’t work. I tried activating the plugins in 2014 and it did not work. I again deactivated them , went back to Aspen, and then reactivated them again. The site is working with what I have up there but I just cannot make any changes with visual editor and the buttons I indicated before. By reactivating the plugins at least the web site is showing the pages as I had them before, rather than a disorganized mess, while I am not busy elsewhere.

Here is a list of the plugins I have activated right now:

    Aspen Shortcodes and Widgets
    Aspen Theme Extras
    Jetpack by WordPress.com
    Redux Framework
    RPS Image Gallery
    WP Edit

    (@smambo)

OK. I did that and still no visual editor. “Add media” button and “help” link doesn’t work either. I exported the content to a file. Should I try a complete new install and then import the file? Will 4.1 be of use?

    Thread Starter Smambo

    (@smambo)

I just de activated all the plugins and switched to 2014 theme. Same result–no visual editor and many of the links were unavailable.

    (@smambo)

Will I lose my customization? Such as columns that are available in Aspen? I will have to do it later as I do not have time to correct it if something goes wrong now.

update again: back to not working. In fact most of the links are not working including “help” button. I have deactivated all the plugins again and it is still showing the add media button with no result when I click on it.
