When it comes to shipping, there’s an important distinction between “shipping cost” from the webshop’s perspective and “shipping cost” from the customer’s perspective.

From the webshop’s side, the shipping cost is simply what you pay your carrier (PostNord in this case) when you book the shipment — including any PDDP fees, fuel surcharges, or handling fees.

From the customer’s perspective, however, the shipping cost is what you choose to charge them at checkout. These two amounts don’t have to be identical — in fact, this is often used as a competitive parameter, just like product pricing or delivery options. Some businesses prefer to pass on the exact carrier cost, while others choose to absorb part of it or adjust prices strategically to stay competitive.

Regarding VAT and duties, that’s a separate matter. When sending shipments as PDDP (Postal Delivered Duties Paid), you’ll want to ensure you collect the correct amount of duty at checkout. Our plugin allows you to set up your own shipping methods and prices for customers, but the calculation and collection of VAT/duties is something handled separately — there are several good tools and services that specialize in that area.

As for customs declarations: yes, Smart Send will automatically generate and include the customs declaration form for shipments outside the EU, based on the product information from your webshop (description, HS code, weight, and value).

So in short:

• ✅ You can ship from Sweden to outside the EU, including the US.
• ✅ Customs declarations are automatically generated.
• 💡 You can set your own shipping prices in the webshop — these don’t have to match the carrier’s exact costs or PDDP charges.
• ⚙️ VAT/duties collection must be handled separately (this would also have been required before the US PDDP change).

Hi Caroline

The GLS title is defined in Shipping Zones in version 8 of the plugin, which is launched in a few days. You should be able to translate the frontend title like any other shipping methods in WPML.
