My issue was the caching on my host wpengine, plus we use an alternative url for login. I contacted support and they excluded my custom login url from the cache.
Think i figured out a solution – i simply deactivated the plugin and reactivated it and now the stars reappeared. Probably should have tried that earlier. Thanks!
