Hi, thanks for the help. I used the built in WP block selector tool and selected the column option and then the preferred format. Then I saved it as a reusable block to save me time, which it does.

I have not tried editing it and resaving. I’m afraid it will damaged my site and all the past blocks that still use that reusable block. I probably have a few thousand of them in use by now.

I suppose I’ll give it a try and hopefully it won’t wreck my site. I do have daily backups for the worst case scenario.

Oh, I just thought of one other strange thing that is new with this version of WP:

    4) Sometimes when I have copied multiple blocks, and then I paste them onto another page, it will double paste it, except, the 2nd paste will be missing just a little bit, like the last few blocks or so.

So, there will be one full copy pasted, and then a 95% copy pasted. I then have to either try using Ctrl Z (doesn’t always work) or just manually remove the extra. It’s bizarre. At first I thought I had accidentally double clicked the paste key, but it happens maybe, 1/3rd of the time, maybe a little more.

I’m a novice, but I know there are some firewall and anti virus plug ins that might be able to scan your site and block intrusions if you don’t already use them.

Some of the WP quality/speed check sites might also include virus scanners, but I don’t know for sure.

Update: Ok, after more playing around I have made a bit of progress. I do not fully understand what is going on, but, I was able to make a good multi block copy this time.

There seem to be two issues related to this:

    1) For an unknown reason, a multi block section started highlighting together when a single block was selected. Then a 2nd, such that any time I clicked inside of one set, the entire set was highlighted with a blue triangle. I have never seen this before. The same for the 2nd set.

This would seem to be related to the this “new feature/bug” of auto copying text from one block to the other. Perhaps I misclicked something somewhere and turned this feature on. This isn’t something I can see myself needing but I could imagine others might find it useful.

I haven’t figured out how to undo this easily, although simply deleting all the blocks worked.

    2) In one copy and past operation, I was up against a set of columns, although for some reason this was not apparent like it usually is, and it was trying to copy part, but not all, of a column set. Normally this is easy to avoid, I never have this issue & I do tons of column copying. But with the changes to the column / embed system, I inadvertently tried to copy part of a column set and it wouldn’t allow this, thus the copy function failed.

Once I realized this and kept the end of the copy section outside of the columns, it succeeded. FTR, I am still able to copy columns. The problem here was that it was trying to copy on part of a column set, i.e., one column out of three, and there was no indicator that I was inside the column set.

FTR, for anyone else running into this, keep an eye out for the short division bars vs. the long ones. If you’re using 2 or more columns, this will help you know when you’re outside the column set. If you’re only using one column, then you’ll need to look for a double bar, or just go up to master column control bar, highlight the whole column(set), and then look to see where the bottom of it is and start your block copy after that line.

/sigh I hope all this info helps someone else who may be as frustrated as I am. I just wanted to edit my page today, and instead I’ve spent hours troubleshooting.

Just found another bug while trying to work with this issue. I started typing some text in one block, then clicked to another block and all of a sudden the text from the 1st block is auto copied to the 2nd block! O.O I did not attempt to copy it at all! It just copied by itself!

Ok, I think I’m going to have to roll back. This new update is a disaster for me. I can’t deal with this. 🙁

Update: Sporadic fix found. What has happened is that for whatever reason, they changed the area you can click on to select the embedded content or an individual cell within a column.

They changed it from any part of the text or surrounding area (not picture and not title), to now it is just a very slim height bar underneath the cell. It is super slim, literally 1/8 of an inch on my screen/res. at most.

However, I have tested this with many different embeds I have and it does not work with all of them. It is hard to click the right spot, and even when you do, sometimes it highlights the embed but then still shows the incorrect edit bar for another cell in the column block (if you’re using columns).

It’s erratic. So, finding this will help some of the time, and for the rest, I’ll still have to edit the code, and for the column block, you cannot select “edit as html”. You have to go into the full code viewer, which takes more time because then you have to hunt down the right code section within a sea of code, or use Ctrl F to find the text.

I had been clicking all over the text area which is where I used to click, it was quick, easy and made sense, and that no longer triggers the edit bar.

I don’t know why they made that change. It seems unnecessary and unhelpful. All it will do for me is waste extra seconds of my time trying to click the right spot & and then some of the time having to go into code mode. Fortunately for me, I don’t do a lot of link editing. Usually I get what I need the first time.

If this is a bug, then it needs addressing, but whether it is a bug or not, and assuming many others are affected, then there should be an announcement made about the change/bug so that people understand how to highlight the embed from now on. The old way is obviously vastly superior to this new added hassle.

Thanks for the response. I’m really needing an automated option which will additionally only show one page at a time in the editor window as well, otherwise, I would eventually have a page in the editor that is 1,000 pages long and unworkable like that.

But I decided to try the manual method you suggested as a temporary solution but I ran into a problem. The function does split the page into multiple pages, and it does show the pagination bar at the bottom, BUT, the pagination numbers all lead to 404’s. It doesn’t work.

Do you have any idea how I might fix this? And also, are you aware of any automated plugins or code that might produce what I’m needing?

While I’m here, I may as well ask one more: When you look at all the top news sites out there, specifically the ones with pagination bars, are they all using blog’s to display their content? Because if they are, then maybe I should just switch to the blog style format and then I have access to both the built in automated pagination and the plugins that are designed only for blogs.

I haven’t done much with blogs yet, so I don’t know how versatile the formatting is, but if all the top news sites that have pagination are using blog’s, then I guess that’s my answer.

I’m also open to premium plugins if there’s one out there. It just seems a little strange to me that such a great feature is only available for blogs and not for regular pages. Maybe there’s something out there and I just haven’t found it yet. I’d be willing to pay a little bit if it is actively maintained.

    Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the response. I’ve learned a bit more now but unfortunately, I’m just running into more problems.

First, I wasn’t very clear in my OP, it seems what you’re referring to is for the blog aspect of WP, but I don’t really need it for the blog…maybe later on. I need it for a regular web page, like you find under the “pages” section of the admin menu.

It seems that the WP built in pagination function, and that’s the term I discovered that describes what I need, only works for the blog and related pages, but does not work for regular web pages.

I then looked through the plugin section of the admin panel and found several pagination plugins, so I thought I had found what I needed, but unfortunately, all of these plugins only work with blogs and their related pages, but not regular web pages.

I don’t understand this. There are literally a zillion web sites out there with regular, non blog pages, that make use of pagination, but WordPress seems to have no options for this and not one plugin? There must be something!

Anyway, I’m still looking for help on this if anyone has any further ideas. Without an automated feature, I will be stuck with making new pages manually all the time and copying and pasting content all the time. It will be an absolute logistical nightmare to keep up with it. The zillion sites out there that use pagination for their non blog pages must be using some kind of script or plug in, etc.

    Any help is appreciated.

Thanks, I may have to start doing it that way. The embed feature is just so quick and easy but it’s missing that one option which is a bummer & I don’t understand why that option would be included.

The embedded video and audio isn’t a problem because that will just play right on my page, but when it’s just a site, most of them open in the same page, but your suggestion would work, but it will be a little extra work and also the storage space will add up to a large amount after awhile. Could get into the gigs after years of it, so I’m not sure what I want to do, but it’s at least an option.

Thanks for the response, I will check into that.

Same here. I just blasted off about 2 hours pulling my hair out trying to figure out why I’m getting this error, thinking it must be my fault since I’m a WP newbie:

    Authentication Issue:
The selected account doesn’t have any Google Analytics Web properties.
Please select another Google Account and make sure your Google Analytics property is set as “Web” not “Apps and web” or “Apps”.

Read through about 5 guides, 5 or so different google help pages, searching web and forums, retrying, uninstalling, troubleshooting, deleting streams, etc. Finally I land on the google page for ‘universal analytics’, where it super briefly and succinctly says,

    About Universal Analytics
Universal Analytics refers to the previous generation of Analytics. This was the default property type for websites prior to October 14, 2020.

Based on what I’m seeing, it is no longer possible to setup a UA account. Previous UA users can apparently keep using it and have the option to upgrade, but new users are forced into a GA account.

Hopefully the plugin will be updated soon, although this seems to have been in beta for quite awhile.
