Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: WP Gallery of images based on a SELECT custom SQL commentHi Corrina,
First of all, I’m not sure, I want to store my images in the WP media library; I might decide to store these elsewhere on the server, but mainly because I want to use search criteria for the image in a custom table that WP does not cover. For example: subject, sub-subject, location, time/date and so on.
The WP installation works as a search page where the user enter keywords or categories of images he/she wants to see and after a submit the search results are shown up as a gallery of images.
Your example of the cats (mine not about animals, but it’s a good example) is what I meant, with the difference that O use more than one search criteria: not only the species but also the race, the location, the owner, the time and more (let’s say).
Last but not least:
>> I think most people would use Tags / Categories so the visitor can filter the results using search facets.Uhm? In WP, can you show a gallery of images based on one of more categories or on one or more tags?

In reply to: [RSS Just Better] [Plugin: RSS Just Better] Items reorderedHi Bill (and the others),
I know: the RSS library wordpress uses – automatically (by default) – orders the items by descending dates.
That’s why both RSSjb and RSS have the same “problem”.
You need to specifically tell the software of the plugin “do not sort”. In this case, it will display the items in the order it finds in the original feed (the XML file it reads).
If this is what you want and you can wait, my next version will contain a drop down menu with a few sort options but I am not sure when i can release it.
if you want a quick and dirty solution and are willing to hack the php code, write me at stefonthenet AT gmail DOT com.
I’ll explain how to do it.
Cheers

In reply to: [RSS Just Better] [Plugin: RSS Just Better] How to sort in ascending orderI do believe to what you say dukejames but please send the feed URL to stefonthenet AT gmail DOT com so i can use it as a test feed for next version.
thanks
StefSo i tested the latest version of RSS just better (containing google news feeds) and I start with the “mea culpa”‘s.
Yes Local did not work. Probably already for 6 months or more it’s just little used. Now it has been fixed.
I understand it is not clear but the topic “Top Stories” is equivalent to a no topic by the feed url point of view. So if you enter keywords with Top Stories, these keywords will be taken into consideration. I will amend the documentation starting from next version so to make this clear.
Instead, the double quotes and the OR (OR needs to be capital) do work even if the double quotes words are not showed up in the widget form, they are stored and used in google news feed. I need to find a fix for this.
I hope it helps.
StefFirst thing first, Google News Just Better wont be maintained any longer but its functionalities have been taken over by RSS Just Better, my other plugin.
To what concern double quotes and Florida local setting I will give a look (I will test it on my test site).
The topic can now be empty. OR should work but needs to be capital. See Google News operators page here: http://www.stefaniamarchisio.com/googles-search-operators/
And a new version is coming out soon (of RSS Just Better).
Thanks for writing and your comments and sorry for my delay in replying.
Stef
I recognize my plugin in the headline. It seems working now. Sometimes feeds do not work temporarily.

In reply to: [RSS Just Better] [Plugin: RSS Just Better] How to sort in ascending orderI will look into this in my next release of this plugin which should be released soon. Do you mean you want to be able to order by ascending and descending datetime? Descending datetime should already be the standard order but – as a few users have already told me – it does not always work like this.
Stef
Hi there,
About b) it should be fixed starting from version 1.1. Please note that the displayed month/weekday takes the language of wordpress and not that of the article you are going to show.
About a) pubauthor does not refer to the author of the article but to the footer reference to the plugin homepage “Powered by …”. I can acknowledge it is misleading…will try to find a better name for next version.
Thanks for your message. Let me know if the language issue is solved with you.
I’m not much into CSS but thanks for your great suggestion. I think I can add it as you wrote it (I cannot do any better, sorry) to the next version of the plugin. It should not take long for a new release as there might be a bug.
Thanks
StefNot seen this message before. if still interested/using it and still does not work, can you please send me the shortcode?
Also via contact form in plugin homepage.
Thanks
StefDear Roberto,
It does not work in the sense that it does not limit the size of the title but keep writing the full title?
I have used the following shortcode on three different feeds and it works ok in all of them.
[RSSjb feed=”…” chartle=”15″]
Maybe you can send me (contact form from the plugin homepage if you do not want to publish your feed) the shortcode you use and \i will try it out for you…
Cheers

In reply to: [RSS Just Better] [Plugin: RSS Just Better] Photos and line breaksHi there,
I am tackling the thumbnail issue here but i’m not sure what you mean by line breaks between feed items…
Each item is between *li* and */li* tags and they are normally going to a new line anyhow unless says otherwise…
Can you explain more?
Thanks
Stef
