I assumed that the black border on the video was part of the lightbox rather than what youtube has sent. in any case it is different again to the thumbnails as it has a black border all the way round rather than just top and bottom. I think the example I used might not have shown the problem as clearly, as it had dark borders down the side (originally 4:3 video pillarboxed to 16:9) Here is a better example from my website:http://breakfreeproductions.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/thumbnail-3.jpg

I don’t understand why Youtube would send a different thumbnail to the one on it’s own site.
The only way I can get round this at the moment is to take the generated thumbnails and crop them in the media library which is a bit inconvenient as I’m planning on a lot of video galleries.

the thumbnails from youtube are 16:9 but they seem to be displaying in a 4:3 box
after your response I thought it might just be my end so I tried the site in some different browsers to see if it was a chrome problem, but it’s displaying the same on all my browsers. Any help you can give me would be gratefully received!
